This is a story about a family, but also about all the ties, lies, mediocrity, regrets, fears and gifts, self-giving times, hopes, reassurance and strength that every family is. The book is also interesting for the long time period in which the characters are followed, so it's like reading a summary of american history from the '70 to the '90, and it's a bonus for me.
Beautiful ending, with the revelation of a mistery, that brings the most tortured character to accept a glimpse of hope and develope a new understanding of himself.
And as in all the books of Pamela Morsi, deep insights and significant revelations appear in day-by-day life, from the mouths of people that are like us, for better or for worst.

Not bad, interesting characters (Eve and Cain most of all), but too fast-paced (here-there-escape-safe home-escape-on the run-new safe home-kiss-love-escape-on the run...) and not very involving, because I have to say that the first two or three times that this man is dying are touching, the other times really seem ripetitive and boring. Like you are thinking: oh, he is dying...AGAIN?! Defend yourself better, boy!
The interaction and loving between the two are also too fast and not rising from deep feelings or insightful understanding. The female character, Eve, is interesting but her past and her nature are not completely developed. Good for the renewal of mythological characters in paranormal romance: phoenix and dragoness, not less. But I prefer Phoenix from Saint Seya and Fawkes. And for the dragon-lady part...see G.A. Aiken for an amusing read!

Non ce l'ho fatta. Una noia...Sono arrivata a pag 117, ho infilato la prima cosa che c'era a disposizione come segnalibro (un campioncino di crema rassodante e rigenerante...niente forse è avvenuto per caso) e l'ho messo nel cassetto del mobile della sala. Pensavo: ok, tra qualche giorno lo riprendo, intanto mi riprendo io passando a qualcosa di più vivace. Di più romantico. Di più coinvolgente. Di più sensuale. Di più dolce. Di più emotivamente intenso. Di più originale. Di più umanamente profondo.
E intanto son passati tre mesi, e la voglia di finire questo libro è definitivamente evaporata con questi primi caldi estivi.
Spiacente, ma Gena non era in gran forma secondo me. Lo lascio.
La cosa che ho più apprezzato sono state le citazioni bibliche (noblesse oblige) ad inizio di ogni capitolo. Ma, voglio dire, mica le ha scritte lei.

Le leggi degli angeli. Prima legge

Riguardo alle figure di angeli nella letteratura e nei romanzi...

*PRIMA LEGGE DEGLI ANGELI. Se, nella vicenda, al posto degli angeli ci potrebbe essere qualcun altro, e nulla cambierebbe sostanzialmente, allora non si sta parlando di angeli. 

Esempio: potrebbero essere tranquillamente alieni in Angel di Weatherly, gargoyles in Archangel’s kiss di Nalini Singh…Ma, per quanto lontanissimi dalla tradizione, non potrebbero essere altro che angeli in Due candele per il diavolo di Laura Gallego Garcia, anche se sono sperduti più di quelli di Wenders - ecco perché Berlino è così importante nella storia. E sono angeli, anche se agnosticamente deviati, quelli di Pullman, ne Il cannocchiale d'ambra.

Angel di L.A.Weatherly. Scritto abbastanza bene, ma decisamente per adolescenti.

  

Archangel's kiss di Nalini Singh. E' un'ottima scrittrice, e la serie è davvero amata da molti, anche in Italia, dato che il libro è stato tradotto e pubblicato dalla Nord. Io preferisco la serie Psy-Changeling. E sono tra le poche lettrici a non svenire per Raphael.

Due candele per il diavolo di Laura Gallego Garcia. Le scrittrici spagnole sono particolari, sia per le ambientazioni che per le caratterizzazioni. Un po' come i film di Almodovar. Il libro è interessante, la storia avvincente, e anche se è per adolescenti maturi, o young adult come si dice oggi, penso che possa essere apprezzato anche da noi più-che-trentenni.

Really good, fulfilling, cathartic, funny, moving, with compelling characters and a beautiful story.
A must-read in contemporary romance!


Da leggere se:
- hai un debole per gli uomini con le cicatrici
- non ne capisci niente di hockey, ma pensi che insieme al rugby sia lo sport più figo che c'è
- vorresti essere raffinata, magra e perfettina, ma credi che lo sforzo non ne valga la pena
- credi che per tutti ci possa essere una redenzione, sia per i duri-e-puri che per le stronzette
- i bambini con i problemi ti colpiscono al cuore, soprattutto se reagiscono!
- adori i colpi di scena e i cambiamenti drastici, soprattutto perché vedi che i protagonisti il loro happy end se lo stanno davvero sudando
- apprezzi notevolmente le capacità di crescita e riflessione su di sé (non piagnisteo) dei protagonisti
- sbavi pensando a un uomo con un magnifico fisico, che beve birra, con un cuore tenero sotto strati e strati di durezza e cattiveria e maleducazione
- ti delizia un dolce, dolcissimo, anche zuccheroso fino alla carie, happy-end...

Really good as all the titles in Pride series, but not so strongly funny nor so hilariously heart-breaking as others. Livy is ok, Vic is super, but new characters not so much, most of all the families. Too many points of view, too many returns from previous books (some are good, but we have real need of all these characters?), too many snakes - real snakes and figurative ones, too many dialogues about evil plans! The romance suffers a little for all those "too much". There are funny moments, romantic moments, action moments, witty dialogues, and it's an enjoyable reading.
So this author remains an auto-buy for me, but I assume that it's impossible to maintain the same level (5 stars level) in a long series. A series that is already improved a lot from book one to now, in covers, characters, plots, dialogues, humor...
So, see you for the next title!

This month is really lucky for me in romance reading, this is the third 5-stars-book that I read! More 4,5 stars, but the improvement from the last two books of the serie is so great that I prefer 5 incredibly-involving stars!
In this last book in the Gansett Island serie, we see the interaction between hot Alex and dear Jenny. It's a tender and sexy story, with funny moments and precious words, with deep insights and sad memories, a lot of hope and strength and force and courage. And less whining and man confidence than in the previous (finally!). And less characters and sub-plots (finally!). And less Tiffany and Caroline (finally!). And less children (no, it's a joke, more than ever!). Recommended!
